Developer Refugium Games released a new trailer for Greyhill Incident earlier this month. Greyhill Incident is set in 1992, with the titular town of Greyhill tormented by bizarre occurrences that they can’t explain. The residents of Greyhill take matters into their own hands, boarding up their homes in an attempt to wait out the extraterrestrial threat.

The player character, Ryan Baker, is tasked with exploring Greyhill after-dark, armed with a baseball bat and a revolver. Baker will need to avoid being found by the hostile Greys, all the while helping his neighbors by completing various tasks. This is all according to the game’s Steam page, which paints Greyhill Incident as a creepy first-person horror game that looks to be somewhat reminiscent of other first-person horror titles like Outlast.
Greyhill Incident’s aesthetic is reminiscent of Outlast, but it also calls to mind alien invasion films, particularly M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 sci-fi horror movie Signs. Not only will Greyhill Incident feature farmland and cornfields to explore, like the protagonists of Signs, but there’s even a character wearing a tinfoil hat, like Joaquin Phoenix’s character did in the movie. According to the Greyhill Incident Steam page, this is Bob “The Lunatic” Baker, Ryan’s brother. Another NPC mentioned in the Steam page is “The Veteran” Brandon, who appears to be in dire trouble at the end of the trailer.
As it stands, Greyhill Incident is only pegged for release on PC, so it seems PC gamers will get to find out what happens to Brandon and the rest of Greyhill’s residents when the game comes out next year. One has to imagine that console ports would be possible if the game drums up enough interest, but nothing to that effect has been announced at the time for this writing. So for now, anyone interested in playing Greyhill Incident and experiencing the game’s creepy alien invasion story for themselves should plan to do so on PC via Steam.
Greyhill Incident’s alien invasion premise will help it stand out among the sea of horror games on the horizon, but it’s not the only game about an alien invasion that’s in development. As a matter of fact, next month will see the launch of a new Destroy All Humans game in the form of Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, which similarly features a grey alien. However, where Greyhill Incident is a serious horror game project, Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed is a comedy action game.
Greyhill Incident will launch in 2023 for PC.
