The Spicy Coaltana is a great example, as it comes preloaded with the Spicy augment, can be used as a light source, and will dish out some serious damage once it’s upgraded. Players that want to get their hands on this unique weapon (and be able to build more in the future) will need to traverse some pretty hazardous terrain and tangle with a horde of imposing foes. Here’s all players need to know about finding and unlocking the Spicy Coaltana in Grounded.

Where To Find The Spicy Coaltana In Grounded

Players will have to travel pretty far from the original Spawn Point at the Kid’s Case to get to the Spicy Coaltana. The sword is located near the overturned Charcoal Grill, which sits to the left of the large shed in the northwestern part of the map. Getting here isn’t as straightforward as it seems, as players will need to traverse a tall stone wall to reach the upper yard. Once players unlock the path to the upper yard (or simply climb up there using man-made stairs from Clay or other materials), they’ll need to head up near the legs of the overturned Charcoal Grill, where they should spot a large bag of Charcoal.

To get inside the Charcoal bag, players need to climb ontop of it and search for a small hole torn into the side of the bag, or head around the back to find a small hole underneath it. These are the only ways in and out of the Charcoal bag, so players should make note of its location if they need to escape. Once inside, they will spot the Spicy Coaltana stuck inside a Charcoal chunk near the center of the bag. Interacting with it will start a wave defense event in which players must keep Ladybird Larva from doing too much damage to the sword. If players succeed in defending the weapon, they’ll be able to claim it for themselves, as well as unlock the recipe for it.

Building Armor And Food To Handle The Sizzle Effect

Getting to the Charcoal Bag is difficult on its own, but players will also have to deal with the Sizzle effect, which causes players to overheat if they spend too much time in a specific area. Once a player’s Sizzle meter is full, they will begin to take heavy damage to their health. The only way to cool down is to head away from the source, but players can also wear special Antlion Armor to give themselves much better heat resistance.

To build the Antlion Armor, players will need to brave the Sandbox Area, which can be a pain on its own as players will suffer the Sizzle effect if they are under the sun when traversing the area. Since there isn’t a lot of cover to be found in the Sandbox, it’s recommended that players only attempt to collect materials when it’s evening or nighttime, as the Sizzle effect doesn’t apply during these hours.

Antlions will pop up from the ground in the Sandbox Area and are quite difficult to fight, especially for players with low-tier armor and weapons. Players should definitely try their best to retrieve a good weapon like the Pinch Whacker, as well as build stronger armor. It can take a bit to farm the materials needed for a full set of Antlion Armor, so players should bring plenty of food, water, and healing items.

Players should also consider heading down into the Antlion Burrows (which can be accessed by defeating the Antlions that throw items at the player from the large holes in the Sandbox and gather some Salt. By getting 6 x Salt Salt Shard and combining them with 1 x Spicy Shard and 3 x Antlion Parts, players can craft the Quesadillantlion (if they know the recipe). This food will reduce a players Sizzle protection by a further 75%, allowing them to stay close to coals for a much longer time.

Tips For Dealing With Ladybird Larva And Defending The Coaltana

To obtain the Spicy Coaltana, players will need to deal with a wave of Ladybird Larva. These creatures are painful enough on their own and dealing with a group can be a death sentence for players that don’t have at least Tier II or Tier III armor. Although they’re a tougher opponent than their normal Larva counterparts, they operate in much the same way. They will attempt to attack players with a biting combo attack and will also use their Charge Bite, which has them rushing at the player to nip them. Ladybird Larva will also sometimes dodge players, by hopping backward, making it more difficult to hit them. Their attacks are also capable of stacking the Sizzle effect, which can eventually cause the player to start burning.

Players can make quick work of Ladybird Larva by using Fresh-imbued Tier II or Tier III weapons, as they take 50% extra damage from the element. Players should never use Spicy weapons, as the creatures are highly resistant to the element, and it will take much longer to kill them. Because players will have to defend the sword from a horde of Ladybird Larva, they should consider bringing a ranged weapon to get the attention of any enemies that head directly for the weapon. Although this strategy works well when multiple players are around, anyone who’s attempting to solo the challenge should kite the enemies that pop up instead.

As enemies head near the sword, players can run over to them and slash at them to get their attention. This is vitally important, as even one focused Ladybird Larva can deal heavy damage to the sword in a short period of time. If players fail the challenge they’ll need to exit the Charcoal Bag and then come back to try again.

What Does The Spicy Coaltana Do?

The Spicy Coaltana is a Tier III two-handed weapon that comes pre-imbued with the Spicy element. It has a base damage output of 40 and an average swing speed. Once fully upgraded, the sword can dish out a whopping 123 damage. It can also double as a light source, as it emits a faint glow that can light up dark locations. The weapon also emits a visible Sizzle effect.

Once players have finished the sword defense, they will unlock the appropriate recipe for it. Players can then create the Coaltana at a workbench by putting together the following materials.
