But as players unlock new areas, they’ll face ever-imposing threats. Massive spiders, terrifying antlions, and artillery-like beetles are just a few of the scary and powerful enemies that players will have to make it through if they want to complete their adventure and return to their normal size. To handle Grounded’s ferocious foes, players need to have strong weapons and armor. Most of these items can be built but if players want to take down the biggest threats, they’ll need to upgrade their gear. Thankfully, the Smithing Station is there to do just that.
How To Unlock & Craft The Smithing Station
To unlock access to the Smithing Station, players will first need to gain access to BURG.L. Thankfully, this can be done right from the start of the game if players know where they’re headed. From the new world spawn point, players can progress to the nearby Outpost and then to the large machine (with multiple lasers pointed at it) that’s nearby the Outpost itself (down a pathway). Once players activate the machine and finish the side quest associated with it, it will cause a large explosion at a nearby oak tree. If players head to the smoldering wreckage at this tree, they will uncover an underground lab and find a “sleeping” BURG.L inside. Reactivating the robot will allow players to use the many ASL terminals located at Outposts around the map.
Interacting with these ASL terminals after BURG.L has been awakened will let players use the Science shop. There, they can purchase the ability to create the Smithing Station for only 100 Raw Science. Once purchased, players can then craft the station using the following materials.

What Does The Smithing Station Do?
Once players have access to the Smithing Station, they can use it to upgrade their tools, weapons, and armor to dish out more damage or protect them better from enemies. To upgrade an item, players will need the appropriate upgrade and a weapon, tool, or armor piece that is capable of receiving the upgrade. Players will need to get their hands on Quartzite to add additional damage and durability to their weapons.
Players will need to snag Marble if they want to upgrade their armor pieces. As players continue to upgrade their items, they will unlock the need for Globs and Jewels. All of these things can be combined at the Smithing Station to continue to upgrade a particular weapon or armor piece, making it a vital utility device for progressing past stronger enemies.
