The solution to this is the Jerky Rack, a simple invention that allows the player to dry any raw meat they’ve collected, pushing back its expiration date and allowing the player to focus on something other than filling their belly as quickly as possible. Crafting this important item is easier said than done, however, since it requires an uncommon resource only attainable through a difficult battle. For those that persevere, the reward is delicious. Here’s everything the player needs to know about crafting and using a Jerky Rack.

How To Make A Jerky Rack

There are two steps to basically any crafting project in Grounded. The first is unlocking the recipe for the item that is to be crafted, and the second is acquiring the materials necessary to actually craft it. Unfortunately for players who want the Jerky Rack, both of these steps depend on a battle that will require some of the best mutations or excellent equipment to survive.

Dangerous insects roam throughout the backyard, from important areas such as the sandbox to more ordinary spaces. Bombardier Beetles are some of the most dangerous, and the player will need to kill them (using a bow is a good choice) and harvest Bombardier Parts in order to craft the Jerky Rack.

Once the player has analyzed the Bombardier Parts, the Jerky Rack recipe will be unlocked at the Crafting Table. The other necessary ingredient, Woven Fiber, is much easier to attain, as it can be crafted using Plant Fiber, one of the game’s most common resources.

How To Use A Jerky Rack

It’s hard to stay well-nourished while hunting for Thistle Needles and completing quests. That’s where the Jerky Rack comes in. Once the player has constructed their Jerky Rack, they can hang raw meat and other food items on the Rack to dry. Leaving raw meat in the inventory for too long will cause it to spoil, so the Jerky Rack is one of the best ways in the game to ensure the player’s food situation remains stable.

Raw meat that has hung on the Jerky Rack for long enough will dry automatically, making it last much longer. With a full stomach, the player can turn their attention to more important issues, such as keeping their armor in top-notch condition. Jerky may be well-preserved, but it’s also dry, so the player’s Thirst will increase after eating it. Always make sure to have some Water or Juice available before digging in.

It takes a long time for raw meat to turn into Jerky, so the player may want to set up multiple Jerky Racks if they have a large amount of raw meat that they want to process all at once. Once the meat is on the rack, it’s time to get back to base-building or adventuring while the Jerky Rack does its work.
